Jewellery Care: Love Your Sparkle
Caring for Your Iris By Hazel Jewellery
Whether it’s a daily-wear stainless steel piece or a delicate sterling silver treasure, every piece of Iris By Hazel jewellery is handmade to last. However, even the toughest metals appreciate a little TLC!
Here is how to keep your jewellery looking as fresh as the day it left my workbench:
1. The 'Last On, First Off' Rule
This is the golden rule of jewellery! Always put your jewellery on after you’ve applied perfume, hairspray, and lotions. The chemicals in these products can dull the shine of alloys and speed up the tarnishing of silver.
2. Keep it Dry
Stainless Steel: This is your 'water-friendly' friend, but it still loves a quick pat-dry if it gets wet.
Sterling Silver & Alloys: These prefer to stay on dry land. Remove them before showering, swimming, or doing the dishes. Chlorine and saltwater are particularly grumpy towards metal!
3. The 'Beauty Sleep' Habit
Take your jewellery off before bed. Not only does it prevent tangles and breaks, but it also gives the metal a break from the natural oils in your skin.
4. Cleaning & Storage
Cleaning: A soft, lint-free cloth is your best friend. For sterling silver, a specialised polishing cloth works wonders. For alloys and steel, a gentle wipe with a dry cloth is usually all they need. However, every Iris By Hazel piece comes with a soft-lint free cloth!
Storage: When you aren't wearing your pieces, store them in a cool, dry place. A small airtight bag or a lined jewellery box is perfect for preventing silver from oxidising (turning dark) in the air.
