Maintaining the Glister: Your Practical Guide to Jewellery Longevity

Maintaining the Glister: Your Practical Guide to Jewellery Longevity

In the theatre, the wardrobe department is the unsung hero. They know that to keep a costume looking "opening night fresh" for a six-month run, it needs a little bit of intentional love.

At Iris By Hazel, I design with materials like 304 Stainless Steel, Alloys, and Glass Crystals specifically because they are meant to be durable—but only if you keep it with a bit of love!

Here is how to keep your Iris By Hazel treasures ready for their next standing ovation.

1. The "Last On, First Off" Rule

This is the golden rule of jewellery care. Perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions can contain chemicals that dull the sparkle of crystals and affect the finish of alloys. Make your jewellery the very last thing you put on before heading out, and the first thing you take off when you get home.

2. The Gentle Polish

To keep your 304 Stainless Steel and Synthetic Cubic Zirconia shining, you don't need harsh chemicals. A simple, dry, lint-free cloth (like a microfibre cloth that comes with every Iris By Hazel purchase) is your best friend. A gentle buff once you take it off will remove oils and dust, restoring that signature "glister" in seconds.

3. Avoiding the "Deep Sea" Act

While our stainless steel is highly resilient, your jewellery generally prefers to stay dry. To maintain the integrity of the hand-strung beads and the brilliance of the glass crystals, we recommend removing your pieces before swimming, showering, or intense exercise. Think of it as "keeping the costume dry for the next scene."

4. Proper Storage (The Dressing Room)

When your pieces aren't in the spotlight, they should be resting comfortably. Storing your jewellery in a cool, dry place—ideally in the pouch or box it arrived in—prevents pieces from tangling or scratching one another. For our multi-strand suites, laying them flat helps maintain the tension of the design.

5. Love for the Alloys

Our vintage-inspired alloys are chosen for their character. To keep them looking their best, avoid abrasive cleaners. If a piece gets wet, simply pat it dry immediately.

A Little Love Goes a Long Way

Taking a few seconds to care for your jewellery ensures that your investment in yourself remains as vibrant as the day you first put it on. You are the lead, and your accessories are here to support you—let's keep them spotlight-ready!
